Re: Sun's press coverage
Il y aurait une itw dans le magazine féminin "BE" paru aujourd'hui. A vérifier.

Re: Sun's press coverage
There will be an article about Cat Power in the september/october issue of "American songwriter" magazine.
The journalist Davis Inman spent 3 hours on the phone with Chan Marshall, so it shouldn't be too shallow.
Also, if you live in Portugal:

Re: Sun's press coverage
After reading the articles of the last 2 weeks, i have the feeling that Chan has invented "Embedded Rock Journalism"!
Re: Sun's press coverage
There is a short, funny interview in the September GQ magazine (US). Unfortunately I can't scan it in. Chan repeats most of what has been said in the other articles about Sun, except at the end she discusses names for her children, Boaz Mexico for a boy and Tumbleweed for a girl. Then at the end comes my favorite line, "Since this is for GQ, can you make sure they Photoshop me to look like I have a big penis?" So funny!
Re: Sun's press coverage
Nice one! Thank you for pointing out this GQ issue! And welcome to this community!

Re: Sun's press coverage
Thanks. A little off topic, but I've been wondering about how Chan has said that at some point in recent years her house was in foreclosure and she got a manager to avoid being homeless. Was this her condo in Miami, her house in Atlanta, or the room that she still keeps in NY- in which case why does she stay in hotels when she comes here? If she always has kept this room in NY it seems there was no chance of her becoming homeless- maybe this was a bit of exaggeration.
Re: Sun's press coverage
Isn't she only renting a small room in NY?
In Spin Magazine, she says that she will switch houses with one of her friends in NY. Her friend will live in her house in Miami while Chan will live in her friend's flat in NY.
Anyway it must indeed have been slightly exaggerated: as long as she has her voice, she won't be homeless.
edit: maybe wasn't it in SPIN magazine. I've read too many articles about Cat Power in too short a time: i can't remember where i read this or that information.

Re: Sun's press coverage
They should talk about the album on this podcast (not online yet): http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/thesampler

Chan mentions once again that the person who told her that her new songs were too sad is a friend who's working at Matador. She's saying that he is like her "elder brother".
Something new that i didn't know: the guitar riff on Silent Machine is from Judah Bauer. I don't know wether he is playing it on the record or if he discovered the riff.
Chan would like to write for other singers. For the song "SUN", she envisionned Mary J Blige, for Silent Machine she was thinking about Jack White.
She wished that some of her songs on this album were sung by Marianne Faithfull, Jonathan Richman, Britney Spears or Nina Simone.
About Matador: they are friends and she loves them. It would be completely different with another label.
Re: Sun's press coverage
A great reading: a review of the album mixed with an interview of Chan where she really talks about the songs. I've spotted only one mistake about the dates of "The Passion of Joan of Ark" .
You can read the article online for free if you register. It will allow you to access to the article for free for 7 days only.

Re: Sun's press coverage
There will be an interview and exclusive pictures in Bullett Magazine next week (sept 5).
I wonder how many journalists did Chan meet?
