Re: Qu'écoutez-vous?/What are you listening to?
Ah Street Legal... A l'époque l'un des albums les moins représentatifs de sa discographie, en raison de l'omniprésence de choeurs féminins sur la mjorité des titres. 2 excellentes chansons: The Changing of the guards et surtout Senor!

J'aime beaucoup Where are you Tonight également.

As-tu par exemple déjà entendu "One more cup of coffee"? Elle avait été reprise par Jack White si j'ai bonne mémoire, et possède la même ambiance un peu western/Mexicaine.

C'est bon ça!
Non, je ne la connais pas. Je garde le titre dans un coin de ma tête...

Re: Qu'écoutez-vous?/What are you listening to?
Slightly off topic, but I am looking forward to getting copies of Pete Townshend's autobiography "Who I Am" and Neil Young's autobiography "Waging Heavy Peace". I've never read a bio on Pete Townshend but every interview I've ever seen or heard from him has always been fascinating. As for Neil Young, I read the Bio from the 90s, "Shakey", which was excellent. He contributed heavily to that book and it basically come out as half an autobiography with pages and pages of his own words. Both books have received rave reviews. More 60's icon autobiographies please!

I just started reading Grace Slick's autobiography. That's fascinating. She's funny and sarcastic.

Re: Qu'écoutez-vous?/What are you listening to?
Is it a new one or is it the one from 10 or 15 years ago that is relatively short (but still includes a lot of great "kiss and tell" stories)? If its that one, I really enjoyed that one as well.
My favorite rock bios:
"Moon: The Life And Death Of A Rock Legend" by Tony Fletcher. Cannot recommend this enough, had me in stitches. Incredibly research and one of the most well written books I have ever read.
"Long Time Gone" - David Crosby's autobiography. Holy shit, this guy did crazy stuff, freebasing on an commercial airplane with a blowtorch underneath a coat in first class(!!) to name just one thing.
"The Love You Make" - The classic Beatles biography. My dad read a chapter of this to me every night when I was about 8. I never wanted to go to sleep.
"No One Here Gets Out Alive" - Must-read for any Doors fan. Ray Manzerak and John Densmore's autobiographies are also close behind.
"Wired" - John Belushi biography. Yeah, he wasnt a rock star per se. But by the time you get to the end of the book you will feel like you are going to have a heart attack reading about the cocaine that went through this guy.
"High On Arrival" - Mackenzie Phillips autobiography. Fascinating stories about her and her dad John Phillips. His gets the prize for worst celebrity dad on the planet.
"Many Years From Now" - Best Paul Mccartney biography, mainly because he collaborated on it.
"Heroes And Villians" - Best Beach Boys Bio, hands down.
"Wonderland Avenue" - Danny Sugarman autobiography. He worked with the Doors and Iggy Pop to name a few. Awesome stories. Like the one where he drove his car of a cliff and it landed inside someones living room. I also like the story of him being so messed up driving he had to tie a scarf over one eye so he could see the road.
"The End" - Nico bio. Chronicling the last 8 or so years of her life on the road, written by her keyboard player.
Dee Dee Ramone wrote a great autobiography that is part fictional. He talks about gunning down some german customs people or something while on tour.
"Hendrix: The Final Days" by Tony Brown - Extremely detailed, fascinating look into the last month of his life. Everything you would want to know.
There are a couple good ones on Janis Joplin, though I dont know that I would call any definitive. Maybe "Sweet Bird of Paradox".

Also "Up and Down With The Rolling Stones" written by Keith Richards' dealer. This is the book that introduced the story of Keith needing to get a blood transfusion because of all the dope flowing through his veins.
Also, "Life" by Keith Richards himself, where he debunks this story. Excellent read.

Re: Qu'écoutez-vous?/What are you listening to?
Bob Dylan's "Chronicles" is a must read, at least for one thing: he wrote it himself. I would suggest to discover his discography before reading it. This book is only the first part. We are still waiting for part 2,3 (and more?).
The best Dylan biography is "No Direction Home, the life and music of Bob Dylan", written by Robert Shelton. Dylan's youth is very well described and Shelton was a very close witness of Dylan's 60's. For instance, he wrote the original liner notes for his first album.
There are too many books about The Beatles to pick one but if you are interested in their Apple Records story, "The Longest Cocktail Party" is a fascinating book. Liam Gallagher is trying to produce a movie from this book.

I should mention this is about Keith Moon. One of my favorite quotes in the book, "Tears were never far from his eyes. They might easily have been pure alcohol".

Oh yes, I couldnt put that one down, a must read for sure. His recent Rolling Stone interview was great and says in it that he is working on a part two but that "Its the re-reading part that is tough to get through". Hopefully that will come out soon.

I'll have to track down a copy.

It was okay, but for me a little lightweight. "John" by Cynthia Lennon was a good read. "The Lives Of John Lennon", though controversial was also a decent read. "Lennon: The Life" by Norman Philip was really good.

I guess that it depends of what you expected from the book. When i was reading it, i was there, as if i was in a time machine which i find priceless.
Re: Qu'écoutez-vous?/What are you listening to?
It's been a long time since I read it. I just remember not being very engaged by it. I did like reading some things about Derek Taylor, who was a flamboyant character on the scene. I recall reading more about the Apple band Trash, then the Beatles themselves in the book. I'll have to go through it again.

The Beatles are clearly side characters in the book but it's an interesting testimony of the craziness of this Apple adventure.

Only 350 tickets were on sale for the fans. The other 350 people in there were guests (french singers, actors, models...).

Cherokee is playing on the radio (France Inter) right now. That's cool.
