I went to the early show and she played for 3 hours and goes something like "I have twelve more songs to play". And then they turned her sound off and she got very upset and says "I'm always in trouble." Yes, she sounded amazing even though she insisted she wasn't.

So, from what I gather from reports on instagram and twitter, the first show was 3 hours and the second show was also 3 hours. Wow... I would have loved to have been at these shows!!

I also read she was an hour and a half late for the second show, but stayed until at least 1-30am and took requests. Others put the late show at 2.5 hours. Still... pretty cool.

Re: 3/11/14 - Brooklyn, NY, Music Hall of Williamsburg (2 shows)
Correction- the early show would've been 3 hours if she'd gone on at 7 as scheduled. She started at about 7:45 PM and played until 10:00. Setlist, possibly slightly out of order, is below. I'd call the ending a semi-meltdown. It seems so self-indulgent to go on late, keep apologizing, then wait for people who paid $45 a ticket (not me! I got in free) to say "no, you're great, we love you." Things started going downhill and the apologies increased when her guitar sounded out of tune, but she still sounded great and as you can see the setlist dug deep and it seemed like she was trying to play her entire repertoire. Then at the end when she got on the mic, whispering she was in trouble as always, a woman in the audience said something like, "it may not have gone the way you expected, but it's more than any of us have had in a long time." I mean is this a concert or group therapy where the patient is getting paid? I guess this is what I should expect but I'd hoped that after playing for so many years Chan would outgrow this kind of behavior. Setlist:

Tumbleweed, can you tell us what ''Old Detroit'' sounded like? Was it the same as the version I think she performed at the Cleveland show?
Also what did some of these other rarities sound like? ''The Coat Is Always On'', ''What Would The Community Think'', etc.

Re: 3/11/14 - Brooklyn, NY, Music Hall of Williamsburg (2 shows)
"Old Detroit" was a bit like the recording from Cleveland but perhaps a bit more developed. There were lyrics about maybe moving to Detroit. Can't really remember much about it. I think the best part of the show for me was "Great Expectations", "The Coat is Always On" and "What Would the Community Think" - can't really describe other than as solo guitar versions of those songs, but they sounded great. She even started to play the opening chords of "Enough" twice I think, but didn't follow through on it. "369" sounded interesting and new on the piano. The show was musically strong, but I could've done without the awkward semi-meltdown at the end. She seemed like she couldn't stop playing even though she knew she was late for the late show. People were lined up around the block when I left, probably waiting for an hour...Cokelike wrote:Tumbleweed, can you tell us what ''Old Detroit'' sounded like? Re: 3/11/14 - Brooklyn, NY, Music Hall of Williamsburg (2 shows)
"Metal Heart" and "Bully" were new guitar arrangements - "Bully" included a bit of "Just Like Heaven". Also "Names" had the Norma Jean medley and "Back of Your Head" had the "Nighttime" (Big Star) lyrics that live versions have featured before.

Yesterday I went to Cat Power's gig in Brooklyn. I completely love her voice, and have been listening to her for years. Search on the plate "Jukebox" on spotify, it's one of the best records available .. She herself was on stage and alternated between piano and electric guitar and it was magic. I have not previously seen her live, so it was amazing. It was sold out and we saw all sorts in place, Kristen Stewart, Camile Row and Alisson Mosshart from The Kills, which I also adore, and all the idols of Cat Power. Her "Rambling woman" is one of the best songs available. Before the show, I went up backstage and left a couple Leontine Boots that she had ordered; big, big honor! Love her music and her style, she is absolutely stunning as it was so BIG FUN for me!
