2/XX/17 - Latercera Interview
http://www.latercera.com/noticia/cat-power-salud-se-hundio-no-deje-escribir-canciones/
(Translated from Spanish)
Are you excited to be back in Santiago?
Of course, I've always had a great time in South America! The last time I was in Chile I was six and a half months pregnant.
Her presentations in South America will be in acoustic format. Is it a practical decision or are you looking for more intimacy in your shows?
I've done acoustic shows since 1993. I play in that mode when the song does not need a band. My last record (Sun, 2012) needed a band, but I'm not going to sing any of the songs on that record.
Is there any chance of playing some of your new material in Chile?
Yes anyway. I chose 30 songs, some are very old, some are very new, others have not been officially published, others are known, there are also unknown, covers and some that have not been recorded.
In a report it was published that she has been composing new songs where her source of inspiration is her son. What can you say about those new songs?
My son is my biggest inspiration, but not when I write songs. It does not matter if I have 10 or 100 children, I will always be myself, creating art outside the context of being a mother.
Are you planning to release a tenth disc soon? Do you still value disc format these days, when everyone seems to prefer to listen to songs via streaming?
Yes, I'm finishing my album now. I, in fact, only listen to vinyl records. I feel sorry for not having more hours in the day to enjoy those albums. Although sometimes I also listen to music online when I need it urgently, like Frank Ivy's song Ivy, which I love.
Her latest album, Sun, was highly praised, as well as being very different from The Greatest, for the incorporation of electronic instruments. Do you plan to continue in that direction on your next album?
Not at all. Since the release of my album failed, due to my repeated hospitalizations for my blood disease, I lost almost all my security and determination. My health sank, as did my career. But I did not stop writing songs and just at that moment I suddenly became pregnant, achieving a newer and stronger version of myself that I did not know existed. Then this new album is back to the origins.
How is your life in Miami and is your state of health after angioedema?
Thanks for asking. I have been living in Miami since 2001, but I still have my apartment in New York. Since I got pregnant my health has improved. Somehow my body healed itself, I'm not hundred percent cured but could say "under repair". Unlike when I was touring with my album Sun, where I had to hide that I was sick to work. I had to act like everything was fine. I can never forget how difficult the process of creating the album was. But it's the record I'm most proud of.

I love that she is such a huge vinyl fan. But I love even more that she is finishing the new album!!

My favorite parts:
The new album is almost finished. And I'll do my best to get it in circulation this year. It would be ideal and also logical.
That is why Sun, among all my discography, is my favorite album. You can not imagine everything I had to do for every sound you hear. Although The Jukebox and Covers Record are my favorite record albums, I suppose. But now that I think about it, You Are Free is equally one of the best things I did. Sorry, I was off topic ...
I have an incredible fan base throughout this beautiful world, which always gave me so much love and strength. My followers helped me to be the person I am today as a mother, blessed with the love of a child, and so did years before. At that time, I did not know which way to take, who was really my friend or what words I should put to my songs. They believed in me when I could not. They taught me to see the love for myself and it's worth fighting for. I continued to strive for success not only for myself but also for all of us. Fame has no meaning if it is not to share it with everyone, under the equivalence of love, community, compassion, understanding, support and strength. Many years ago, and many nights ago, I felt so alone that I do not know how to explain it. However, night after night, those fans, those strange people, these human beings, gave me light and love. They helped me to create the strong woman I am today.
