Depuis 24 heures, je suis confronté au dilemme suivant: devons nous parler ou non du contenu de l'album depuis qu'il a fuité?
Entre-temps, Matador Records m'a confirmé que la fuite n'était pas de leur fait ni un souhait de Chan et qu'ils faisaient tout leur possible pour l'endiguer. Dès lors il me paraissait illogique d'administrer un site appelé "Ode to Chan" et ne pas respecter la volonté de l'artiste...
Je vous demande donc de bien vouloir attendre la sortie officielle de l'album, à savoir le 31 août dans certains pays, avant d'en parler ici, merci!

Well, I do want to talk about the album but I'd feel weird going on about it without your input as well. We still havent heard the bonus tracks either. I was going to wait and talk about the whole package, music, artwork, etc. Maybe I should go ahead and post my thoughts on it?

Do as you prefer, i don't want to push you one way or the other. I simply don't want you to wait for me because you feel that it could hurt me. I'm bulletproof now, after reading thousands of tweets about people listening to SUN. geek

That vinyl set picture is hella-cool. Only a few more days!

I wonder whats in the digipack CD version thats different from standard CD version? Personally, I dislike digipacks. They get all scuffed up and look like crap if you arent careful. Jewel cases rule. They are uniform and they can fit in cd racks. Digipacks dont fit anywhere.

That link also shows some 2012 vinyl editions of Moonpix and You Are Free. Good choices for reissues. thumbs up

I wonder what if anything is different about them.

If i'm not mistaken they are not 180g vinyl but 120g, which would explain the cheap price.

In the french version of Rolling Stone magazine, there is an interview with a french journalist where Chan talks about Cherokee. She recalls that in the movie "PLATOON", Charlie Sheen wears a helmet on which is written "When i die, burry me upside down, so the world can kiss my ass". She says that she wrote Cherokee for one of her friend that she advised to attend an art school. Later she met her again and this friend told her that she was gay. Some time later, she discovered that her friend killed herself, and she wrote this song in order to cope with the grief.

This is a really stunning record set. Very cool! Lots of what look like heiroglyphics included on the record sleeves, which translate to the song titles. The gold 7" sleeve has eight symbols which translates to "Cat Power". The black and gold format makes sense to me now. Its like this album was found in a egyptian ruin or something. Neat!!

"Back In The Days" - This a very spare track with a bassline, some live drums and a heavily tremelo'd background vocal.

"Fire" - This is one has electronic drums, guitar, and multiple vocals parts. The guitar part reminds me a bit of "Say". Lyrics include the lines "You said the greatest thing on fire, you laid down where you lay."

Neither song sounds as finished as the songs that are on the album.

Suddenly, I have an actual reason to delve into "The Element Encyclopedia of Secret Signs and Symbols" by Adele Nozedar. I picked up this 684-page book for like $3 at a Barnes and Noble that was closing down about a year ago.

Here's an excerpt:

There are several different runic systems but the one which seen most often is the oldest version, known as the Elder Futhark. The alphabet consists of 24 symbols, each of which encapsulates a small universe of meaning.
