Ok, obviously he didn't like the concert. That's interesting but i wouldn't draw any conclusion after reading this review. I still remember reading bad reviews of her Salle Pleyel concert, though it's my favourite concert ever.
What i see is that it was not perfect but how could it be after so few rehearsals?
I don't believe the "backup" story. He didn't understand that what he calls safety net was most probably intended to be some kind of duet of Chan with herself.
Anyway, it doesn't look worse than the old tours stories. Far from it...

Re: 10/11/12 - Miami, FL, Grand Central
Finally i've remembered that my tv can be plugged on internet and play youtube videos without a computer( my tv is more powerful than my second computer ).
That was interesting. The first video that i watched was Manhattan and i understand that some people could have been annoyed. I felt too that something went wrong with the recorded backing vocals. The same with Nothin But Time: the playback seemed awkward.
Silent Machine is very cool but Chan seemed to have troubles with her guitar, didn't she? (edit: with a video shot from another angle, it seems that in fact there wasn't any problem at all with this song)

Interesting reviews. I'll have to wait til I have more time to watch all the videos. First night of the tour, new songs, new band. There was bound to be a few problems. Sounds great from what I've heard so far.
You can see her Danelectro in one of the above pictures on a stand. Its either her old one with a new pickguard or a totally different one, cant tell.

By the way, Chan posted the bad review of David VonBader on instagram and here's what she says:

How do you even write "Cat Power's Sun Tour Was A Train Wreck"? It's only the very first show of the whole tour. A little early to make judgements about the entire tour. I love Chan and Gregg's responses, personally calling him out.

Review and Pictures
Thursday night, Miami resident Chan Marshall performed at a packed Grand Central as Cat Power in support of her new album, Sun.
Opening act Addiquit, a hip-hop songstress from California, took the stage first, wearing knee-high pink-striped socks to match her synth-laden poppy beats. After one song, she reacted to a slow response from the crowd with “Hold the fuck up! That song is dope.” She paced around the stage feverishly while rapping until about 9:30, at which point she asked if we were ready for Cat Power. The excited reply drew a playfully sarcastic “I love y’all too” from Addiquit.
Just before 10, Cat Power’s backing band took the stage and jammed over the loud murmur of a chatty crowd. A blonde Marshall finally joined them five minutes later, placed a tall candle in the center of the stage, and catapulted from the slow jam into a blistering rendition of “Cherokee” from Sun.
Marshall sang over a previously recorded track of her own vocals. This initially became most noticeable during “Human Being” when Marshall would just not sing or sing away from the microphone during some parts of the song. Between songs she mumbled, sometimes too far from the microphone to hear, and her band mates looked a bit concerned at times. Frankly, she seemed drunk. A few times she crouched in the corner of the stage for a minute. During “Silent Machine” she strapped on a guitar, which she alternated between playing and miming playing motions. She then asked for the house lights to be turned on, then gratefully exclaimed “Oh my God,” when she saw the enormous crowd.
Despite (or maybe because of) the strange antics, which were tough to watch at times, the fans seemed behind her 100 percent. They sang along with the backing track and sometimes with Marshall, cheered loudly, and shouted words of encouragement like “You can do it!” One girl yelled “Take your headset off,” after apparently determining that Marshall’s headset monitor was the cause of her singing problems. I suspect otherwise.
The low point of the show came toward the end. Marshall started talking during the last 20 seconds or so of “Nothing but Time” while her band was still playing, and after the song was finished announced she had to use the restroom. “I’ll be back in two seconds. Two piss-onds.” Before going to the bathroom, she brought Addiquit onto the stage for an impromptu cover of Joy Division’s “Atmosphere”, which itself lasted two seconds. Marshall’s band then started jamming to bide the time, and two seconds turned into about 10 minutes. The crowd largely stuck around for this break with only a few groups of people deciding they had seen enough and heading out.
Marshall finally returned at 11:10 and closed the set with a surprisingly great performance of “Ruin”, a single from Sun. The crowd was completely into it and Marshall redemptively nailed her performance, singing the whole thing well and getting the crowd dancing. Afterward, she held a candle and told the audience, “I’d like to say fucking thank you,” a couple of times before ending the set despite the keyboardist’s suggestion that they continue. She stood at the back of the stage and excitedly joined the fans in a “One more song” chant before perhaps wisely exiting for good, on a legitimately impressive high note.
Setlist
– Cherokee
– Sun
– 3, 6, 9
– Human Being
– King Rides By
– Manhattan
– Silent Machine
– Back in the Day
– Nothing But Time
– Atmosphere
– Ruin

Prehaps the above is a more accurate list of the actual songs played at the show. Though Bully should be listed first. This might mean "Peace And Love" and "Real Life" werent played, so maybe no videos of those songs for a while.

Picture And Fan Review
Picture And Fan Review
Cat power played last night in Miami. Now for those who knows Chan Marshall from the past like me wanted to see or expected to see a magnificent performance. We were thrilled to finally see her perform live after so many years and albums past. But something was missing here. Something deffinetely went wrong last night and I’m going to to through it so I can rest my case in peace because I am still I shock.
Chan came to stage after an eternity of smooth piano, wearing a T shirt and a candle. Her smile was shy and somehow it felt weird for a moment. Her apparent displeasure to be on stage showed immediately after the first song. She was discontent with the sound, mumbling to the band as it felt something really wrong was happening on stage mortified all of us as crowd.
The first song was the victim of an early end. She was angry and mostly embarrassed. The band attempted to start the second song an early cue sent some of Marshall’s pre-recorded vocals in their way before she even had the mic on her mouth. Then again she had to apologies with the audience now concerned about her and the rest of the gig. Despite all this Marshall’s vocals sounded phenomenal but did not match her body language or erratic behavior. She look completely uncomfortable, exited the stage multiple times and made set changes. Skipped my favorite song The Greatest which to me was the only thing I was looking forward and cleaned my smile away as she said: ”I don’t wanna sing that”
We saw an unwell Chan Marshall. She was onto something and it damaged the entire appreciation of what we though it was going to be. Critics say she needs treatment of some sort and to be out of the road for a while. Its sad to see one of your idols from the youth on a weird vice and hooked up on something. Specially in front of us. A crowd that loves her and all we want is to see her shine.

Even more Pictures and Concert Discussion
Wow, in just about 24 hours, the show has been played, the reviews written, Chan responds to them, and now a response about Chan's response as well! Not exactly how I thought the tour would start off, but... okay...
This is from the Miami New Times, who posted the "Train Wreck" review:
Even more Pictures and Concert Discussion
Cat Power (AKA Chan Marshall) is a brilliant indie rock badass.
But she apparently doesn't dig criticism. Especially the kind that she perceives to be unfairly judgmental, arrogant, and "square."
This morning, we here at Crossfade, the Miami New Times' music blog, ran a review of Marshall's Sun tour kickoff concert at Grand Central.
The headline: "Train Wreck." And predictably, Chan wasn't too happy with our version of events.
To summarize this publication's take on last night's gig: "Marshall was completely torn-down on something ... She looked uncomfortable in her own skin, and in general, lived up to her poor track record as a live performer ... Get Chan Marshall off the road and into proper treatment ... [Because] though it might now be a part of the Cat Power mystique, it is beyond uncomfortable to pay money to watch the unraveling of a woman this talented at the hands of whatever vice has her in its grip."
Obviously, Crossfade's assessment of the Miami show wasn't a glowing appreciation of Cat Power's onstage magnificence. That would've been dishonest reporting. But it also wasn't mean, insensitive, or unnecessarily preoccupied with the performer's "physical body."
Yet this afternoon on her Tumblr -- AFASM (Arrow From a Southern Moon) -- Marshall shot back at New Times, Crossfade, and the review's author David Von Bader, posting a screenshot and the following all-caps reaction:
DAVID VON BADER IS A SQUARE.
FULL JUDGEMENT OF HIS PHYSICAL BODY, BODY LANGUAGE, CREATIVE APTITUDE WHILE ARROGANTLY MISTAKING & IGNORANTLY MISUNDERSTANDING HIM CRITICALLY WITH SOCIAL EYEBALL, SOON, ON MY BLOG. INCREDTV.COM
So far, there doesn't seem to have been any New Times-, Crossfade-, or David Von Bader-related attack rants published to Marshall's personal web log. But a short time after her initial lashing-out, Chan did post the above screenshot of our photographer Ian Witlen's slideshow pic, alongside this hashtagged warning:
THE LOVE THAT WONT SHUT UP. #ufuckwithmeufuckinwithmywholecrewEARTH
Umm, OK ... There's no real reason for beef, though. Because we love you, Cat Power. We own every single one of your albums. And we think your new blonde mohawk is fucking awesome.
But while there are plenty of fanboys and -girls on Twitter and Tumblr who'll tell you otherwise ... It's just that last night's show sucked.

Re: 10/11/12 - Miami, FL, Grand Central
"The Miami new times" has a strange way of doing things. Answering to Chan? Come on, it's no kindergarden! And who the hell writes such a thing: "Get Chan Marshall off the road and into proper treatment" ? Once again, i wasn't there but their review looks biased.
Setlist
It looks like Chan chose to abbreviate the setlist while performing, so I'll revise the setlist on Page 1.
I think this is how it went down:
Bully
Cherokee
Sun
3, 6, 9
Human Being
Real Life - Skipped
I Dont Blame You - Skipped
King Rides By
The Greatest - Skipped
Manhattan
Back In The Days
Silent Machine
Peace And Love - Skipped
Always On My Own - Skipped
Nothing But Time
I Dont Blame You (Chan and Addiquit sing a verse of "Atmosphere" by Joy Division)
Ruin
Chan and Addiquit are singing part of "Atmosphere", but the music here is totally the new version of "I Dont Blame You" that DDBB were playing as a standard set closer for the past several years. I believe that Gregg and the band were waiting for her to sing it. I guess the new version of "I Dont Blame You" was based on "Atmosphere"? You can hear it here and it does really sound like the same song.

The last sentence reminds me of something...
The setlist looks unreliable, with the addition of Names but nothing about Bully though we saw this one on youtube.
