These are the 75th and 76th performances of the year and the 16th and 17th solo performances of the year.
Technically, this was really one long show. Start time for the ''early show'' was delayed until around 10pm or so. Around 11-45pm, the ''late show'' people were let in and everyone else could stay. Nico Turner did not get to play her set. An audio recording was made, and the quality is very good. The times above reflect this audio.

Re: 11/20/13 - Cleveland, OH, Grog Shop
I dont even know how to put into words how wild my experience was at this show. I have much to write about this show. And I will write about it today. However, I am running on very little sleep at the moment. This month has been crazy with all of the traveling.
There will be a lot to hear and see.
A few highlights (among many for me!):
Chan didnt remember the chords for "Metal Heart", but brought Nico Turner out to play it on guitar. I could see them discussing the song and I waved Nico over and shouted her name. "What are you gonna tell her?", Chan said. "The chords!", I said. Nico stepped over to the edge of the stage right in front of me and leaned her head down to hear me, and played each chord as I called it. "Am", (strums chord), "C", (strums chord) "G" (strums chord), "D and that's it". Chan then came from behind the piano and they both played the song. Incredible.
------------------------
Chan was, lets say... Feelin' no pain from the beginning to the end, of this LONG concert which was due to start at 6:00pm and actually started sometime after 9pm, I think. Nico Turner didnt get to open. And there was no break for the 2nd show. Those people were simply let in around 2 hours (?) after the original 9:00 pm for the late show. It was one long show. I am willing to bet a lot of people will have some negative things to say about their experience at this show. I'm sorry for them, that it wasnt what they wanted.
--------------------------
Me: What's this 'Whos Gonna Rock?' song?
Chan: Thats a chinese translation.
Me: Oh, so its a chinese song??
Chan: mmm-hmmm.
--------------------------
Chan: "Anyone have a cigarette?"
Me: "I got you, Chan! You gave me a cigarette at you other show so I owe you one right?"
Chan: (takes cigarette and lighter) "You dont owe me anything."
A minute later, she stubs out the cigarette on her guitar leaving a long black smudge near the pickguard.
--------------------------
12:00am-1:00am(?) - Chan, basically stops playing and talks about everything under the sun. Words cant describe, what this was like. People get antsy, make upset faces and start to leave. Some girl says something about how she has to leave, "I have 2 kids at home and have to work in the morning!" Chan: "So go! So fuckin' go!! I have kids too, I'm teaching all these kids here." Other girl (Jessica): "You're being so rude, you're ruining the concert!"
Me: "Seriously, can we hear Chan play!?"
Chan: (shoots me a huge grin as if to say, "Yeah, really!")
She rails on this girl for about 2 minutes straight. Totally bizarre on both ends.
--------------------------
1:30am(?)
Chan invites a girl named Leslie on stage after she says she wants to sing with her. They do a cover of "Werewolf" which is half song half comedy routine. Totally crazy. She only lets the girl join in the ''Dee, de, de, de, de, eeeh-heeea un, huuh" part, which takes several attempts. She keeps the girl 6 feet away from her until this part each time.
--------------------------
1:50am(?), 15 fans left talking with Chan by the stage.
Me: "Hi, Chan, nice to meet you... again. I'm Andy"
Chan: (shakes my hand and locks eyes for me silently for about 20 seconds)
10 minutes later...
Girl: (recording Chan with her iphone as she talks to fans at the edge of the stage around 2:00am).
Chan: "Sorry, you cant record me. I only let people I trust do that, like Andy."
Me: "Really, Chan?!"
Chan: "Yeah, but you have to be careful, you cant trust everybody."
--------------------------
2:30(?)am
Chan: (to fans who are leaving out the main door) "Bye, thank you, thank you!"
Me: "See you, Chan!"
Chan: "Dont go. Can we close this door?"
Chan has me and another girl named Kayla from Toledo stay in the venue and kicks all the other fans out. Two girls who want to stay have words with her. "I dont know you, I'm sorry, you have to leave!"
2 minutes later, at the bar. Me, Kayla, Chan + 5 or 6 Bar staff left in the venue.
Chan: "Okay, (slaps hands on the bar), lets have a drink, what do you want?"
Kayla: Water, please.
Me: I'll have whatever you're having Chan!
Chan: (to bartender). "You know that Jose Cuervo isnt really a tequilla? Its...."
The drinks never happen.
"Could I get a picture with you, Chan?"
"Wait for it."
The picture never happens. (not a huge deal of course, just explaining).
Chan's dogs are brought in. The run around everywhere and piss and shit all over the floor. Kayla puts a newspaper over one huge puddle of piss.
A girl with the bar staff arrives wearing a hat that says "Canada" on it. This prompts Chan to sing "A Case Of You" by, Joni Mitchell. "You're in my blood like holy wine..." I join in with Chan, "You taste so bitter and so sweet, I could drink a case of...."
Suddenly Chan grabs me with both hands covering my mouth so I cant finish the line. She looks at the girl with the Canada hat, expecting her to finish the line. She does not know it. Chan lets me go. She starts singing again. I join in again. At the chorus, the same. She covers my mouth and waits for the girl to answer. Chan lets go of me, "Are you mad at me?". "Nope".
Security Guy: We have to shut this down, Chan. Some of us have been here since 5pm. We have to go.
Chan: So fuckin' go! Go then!
Security Guy: It doesnt work like that. Everyone has to leave.
Chan: (Looking at his ring) Is that obsidian?
Annika and Nico sit quitely on the edge of the stage, weary.
I end up leaving at 3:30am, having been there since the doors opened at 8:00pm. My mexican blanket I brought to sit on is covered with spilled beer. I have long since run out of camera batteries for my cameras.
Chan is talking with someone from the staff. "You said my dogs were english!" "No, I didnt!", "YES, you did!"
Me: "Bye, Chan!"
Chan: (turns around for a second and shoots me a "Who the fuck are you?" look)
I leave.
I'll write more later! I am so exhausted, only about an hour sleep since, 10:00am yesterday.

Chan was, lets say... Feelin' no pain from the beginning to the end, of this LONG concert
I wish you'd asked her what she was on. I remember back 10 years ago when she announced during a concert at the Warsaw in Brooklyn that she was on acid. (not hearsay, I was there) and from this account and certainly from the Elliott Smith tribute show, I get the feeling that she is on.... Something.....

Re: 11/20/13 - Cleveland, OH, Grog Shop
Its funny you say that because I spoke with a guy before the show near the venue for a while. And he was really odd. After 30 minutes, he admitted that he was on acid. He didnt attend the show, he didnt know who Cat Power was. Was she on something like that? I dont know. But the big glass of something green that she got near the last hour of the show certainly did the trick for her. So much ramblin'!tumbleweed wrote:Chan was, lets say... Re: 11/20/13 - Cleveland, OH, Grog Shop
Glad you're here!
It was a really strange show. But incredibly interesting to see Chan so outspoken. At the Sun concerts she hardly spoke, here she had a word to say about everything. The playing was for the most part pretty solid, if sometime fragmented. Her singing was good as usual. One of the most ominous parts was the very beginning as she scrambled to get the show rolling. She began singing "Who's gonna rock?....(bangs the neck of her guitar against the mic stand, BOOONG!) Who's gonna roll..." (BOOOONG!). Great introduction to what was going to follow.
Still working out the set list but here is what I have so far, there is at least an hour more.

The comments section is salty. It was obviously not a concert for everybody!

Updated setlist. Some notes:
The lyrics to "Sea Of Love'' were all about farming.
I missed some of "The Moon", not much.
"We Got A Lot Of Work To Do" seems to be an improvised song. "We got coffee, we got beans, we got..."
"Swing State" is a total highlight. Something she also seemed to just improvise out of nowhere. A sing-along with the crowd.
"You Belong To Me" - I wish this was longer, but she didnt know the words.
"He's A Mighty Good Leader" - I missed almost all of this, the last song.
