Re: 11/10/13 - Carrboro, NC, Cat's Cradle
Chan might have been joined on stage by Dexter Romweber (Flat Duo Jets) for a duet : "Love Letters" ?
Edit: It seems that it has already happened there (Dexter is from Carrboro)...http://www.lastfm.fr/event/54954+Cat+Power+at+Cat's+Cradle+on+19+November+2006
So I'm not sure the guy is actually talking about last night...

Re: 11/10/13 - Carrboro, NC, Cat's Cradle
Review:
http://uncg-carolinian.com/2013/11/20/cat-power-disappoints-at-cats-cradle/
Singer-songwriter Chan Marshall, who performs under the stage name Cat Power, played The Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro on Sunday, Nov. 10. Approximately one fuzzy opener, fifteen minutes and a stick of incense after the doors opened, Marshall appeared, her round face almost unrecognizable under a new platinumblonde haircut and shoulders sloped under a heavy jean jacket.
The first song was “Hate,” a midtempo, minor rocker lamenting the suicidal desires of a mystery girl. She looked the audience over and sang, “Hey, come here, let me whisper in your ear” as the audience stared up in awe. She transitioned, somewhat clumsily, into “Fool.” Her voice cycled through paper-thin croons and a rich lower register. She leaned into a curvy, tan guitar, and maintained a comfortable beat that drew the crowd close to her. “Thank you for supporting me,” said Marshall, fidgeting and scattering bits of sheet music across the floor as she assumed a new position at an upright piano arranged nearby with a tall candle burning on top. She plunked out several experimental notes before picking up a singsong lament comparable to a sadder Norah Jones crossed with A Fine Frenzy. A shadow fell over the room as Marshall fumbled and found the crisscross accompaniment of “Names.” When the tune ended she let out a howl and summoned a man with a guitar. He played, and she swayed softly with her hands clasped behind her back, her focus on her guest and the melodies he supplied her with; she seemed to feed off of his energy and reconstruct hers for the better. But he was gone at the end, and she resumed her solo presence with a slow, haunting rendition of “Satisfaction”. At this point there was a break in her energy and ability to wholeheartedly give to the audience. Transitioning between songs, Marshall muttered, sighed and questioned the audience repeatedly. “You mad at me?” asked Marshall. She shook her head and apologized countless times, and began to have difficulty completing songs. Some time later she stopped completely and explained. “You have no idea how many people in my life expect me to fail,” said Marshall. Unexpectedly, she shifted into a brief interpretation of Marvin Gaye’s “Can I Get a Witness?” The oddities continued as she became a detached performer who attempted to piece bits of music together. She restarted one song four times in search of the right key and expressed frustration that the music she meant to share was just too boring.
Marshall’s audience remained engaged and supportive and offered her claps to steady her nerves. Marshall’s attention and passion trickled away as the evening wore on, leaving the audience with a half-committed performer and lackluster time.
