Album Information
From Chan's London interview, 4/XX/97:
Chan: We recorded at the Sonic Youth's practice pad. We recorded about 25 songs, all first takes. We got some beer and just fucked around. I sorted out the songs to give to Runt (the record label), then there were all these songs left over. Steve asked if we could put out the other songs too and I said it was ok.
-----------------------------------
From Chan's interview with Steve Tignor for Puncture, Summer 1996:
Chan: I guess I'm happy with the two albums. We recorded then in one day. Most of the time though, Steve and Tim ended up looking at each other like 'What do we do?' I wasn't sure what to tell them, since I had
never really written songs with a band in mind It was hard to fit the whole thing together. Those guys just kind of...
"Fucked thing up," I prompted jokingly.
Chan: Listen to you! No, they were just kind of left hanging. Really, the only song I'd say I like right now
is 'Ice Water.' I think that's a good one. 'Rockets' was just a hymn, like, stay in school, don't do drugs. Mostly I just make up lyrics while I'm playing guitar on the couch. I take things from my life, things that happen to my friends, or whatever, lines I'll remember.
------------------------------
From Chan's interview with Ink Blot Magazine, 11/28/99:
I really like the album Myra Lee - I just picked that up a few weeks ago.
Chan: I was 21 then...
Do you think your music has changed quite a bit since then?
Chan: My personality's changed a lot.
Do you look back at those songs, and kind of wonder what you were thinking about back then?
Chan: I feel sad. I know what I was thinking about then. (Laughs) I don't need those songs to remind me! It's really flattering, but when you're looking forward and you don't want to think about the past, and it's like, "I'm so glad I'm not there anymore!" You know what I mean? Just confused... wondering what the hell you're doing and everything seems so desperate and empty and just...lost. And just thinking, "Man, I'm so glad that I'm alive!" I mean, that's what's so great... They were different.

Myra Lee on Vinyl
I've been in contact with someone over at Smells Like Records and they said we may soon get a vinyl pressing of this album. (This is the only official Cat Power album to never be released on vinyl.) They said they aren't sure when, but it is possible. if we have enough people send in emails demanding it, they are more likely to do it.
p.s. I absolutely love her first two albums!

Re: Myra Lee - 1996
That would be cool to have the whole discography on vinyl!
Welcome to the forum by the way. If you don't mind, it would be cool if you could introduce yourself in a few (or more) words on this topic: https://odetochan.forumgratuit.org/t12p15-presentez-vous-introduce-yourself. It's not an obligation but if every new member could do the same...

After playing, ''Naked, If I Want To'' on 1/25/14, someone in the audience requests "Not What You Want". Chan replies, "Oh, wow... that one I dont do."

For Spanish speakers, here's an article that centers on Cat Power's first years, specifically in "Dear Sir" and "Myra Lee":
