I'm really tired so I can't write that long, but I just wanted to write about seeing cat power last night at babylon.
I was so excited to get to see her play, but unfortunately the choice of venue was a bit off--- I think it would have been much better if it was a sit-down affair, maybe at Ses Tiyatrosu, like when we saw Kings of Convenience. She has such a soft voice and such minimal layering that the constant buzz of a chattering audience made me feel embarassed for her. And there were also the throngs who came just because it was cool to be there, not quite knowing what to expect, and perhaps disillusioned by babylon's advertisement -- making her sound like someone in the vein of interpol just because she's with Matador. There were groups wailing that it was boring while actual diehard fans got stuck outside without tickets. So the whole affair was a little tense and anticlimactic for me... though her performance was strong and consistently beaufiul, even when I couldn't quite hear it consistently clearly.
