The Zach Braff/Cat Power collaboration is utter cool but i must admit that i'm a bit puzzled redarding a Coldplay/Cat Power connection.
If i really enjoyed half of their A Rush of Blood to the head album,i couldn't care less about their following records.
Luckily, i trust Chan when it's time to turn lead into gold.
Anyway, if things turn well, this could be a massive hit.

Wish I Was Here debuts in New York and Los Angeles July 18. The film opens in additional cities July 25.
So maybe just 4 months until the soundtrack release.

The film will be released on July 18. The soundtrack will be out on July 15 (you can pre-order it now through the movie's website or iTunes). Here's a track listing below. We'll be rolling out new songs by Bon Iver and that Cat Power/Coldplay collaboration over the next few weeks.
So maybe the Cat Power track will be heard on NPR's website in advance of the CD release.

And here is the song: http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2014/07/07/328139263/song-premiere-an-unlikely-collaboration-from-cat-power-and-coldplay?utm_campaign=storyshare&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social
"Here's how it was made: Zach Braff, the creator of the film Wish I Was Here, gave an early version of the film to Coldplay's Chris Martin. Braff told us via email that Martin got the band together to work on the song. "Chris had the idea that it would be sung by a woman. I thought that was a genius idea because one of the things the film is about, is a strong woman (Kate Hudson's character) becoming the matriarch of her family. When Chris and I were talking, we both kind of simultaneously said, 'Cat Power.' I reached out to Chan Marshall (a.k.a. Cat Power) and she and I met and really clicked. I set her up to watch the film in her apartment. The whole time she was watching she kept texting me all the different parts she was loving. She said yes the instant it was over."
Chan Marshall went to Electric Lady studios in NYC and tracked her voice. Chris Martin would later add his harmonies with Coldplay producing the song. Zach Braff calls it his favorite cut on the record, a soundtrack filled with originals from and and other tunes by , Hozier and , to name a few."

When i heard that a Coldplay song would be sung by Cat Power, i was really curious: how could it sound? Well, it's like a Coldplay song sung by Cat Power!
Honestly i'm not really fond of Coldplay but this is a fine tune.
Chan's work here is very good as usual, but it won't come as a surprise.
In fact i think that the song would have been better if it had been produced by Chan.

yeah I recall that. i've been a coldplay fan for some time now and coldplay's production is not so good. specially in slow acoustic songs lately.

To say that I'm not at huge Coldplay fan would be an absolute understatement. So, yeah, I must admit the tune is a happy surprise !
First, it goes without saying that Chan's vocals are stunning and actually, I enjoy the chord progression itself.
BUT, I also think the piano sounds pretty bad, too aseptic, very "mainstream"... and apart from that, the main inconvenience is Chris' chorus : it makes me cringe !
Anyway, as I said I rather enjoy the song !
