Waoooo! It really sounds like a "You Are Free" outtake!

This release is a real surprise. I would have never thought after Manhattan video last week that a new single* could be released a few days later!

I was convinced that Bully would be on the next album. I like it's flavor and i hope that the next album will have such delicacy. We already know that the potential is here for that: Horizon, Time great healer, etc.
I hope too that'll have one day a lossless version of Bully...

*Notice though that Bully is sold as a new bonus track for SUN, not as a single.

That's what I thought too. It's a really nice surprise though.

I like SUN but I hope the next album will be more "simple". When I saw her performance yesterday on Jools I realized this is really the Chan/Cat Power I like. Delicate, subtle and simple.

Exactly! It was really moving to see her perform this song on TV.

I would be very interested to read the lyrics of this song, because i must admit that i don't understand everything. Here is what i understood, please correct me when i'm wrong or complete with what you understood:

Its very cool to have "Bully" as part of the official canon. I can only hope for more from the sessions to be released. Thanks Chan!!!

I'm still asking myself why Chan would release this tune now. It's not on SUN and it doesn't sound like anything on SUN. It is a "classic" Cat Power song, that could have fit on "The covers record" for instance. So why? Anyway i'm glad she did. It put the song under the spotlights, something that would never happened if it was a track among others on an album.

If Chan released such a barebone song, could it mean that she's at peace with the "sad Cat Power" that one of her friends talked about when he heard SUN's demos, which finally lead to an upbeat album? Is the next album slowly in the making? 2014 could be a good year, the best?

I was really surprised to hear the studio version of 'Bully' and find out it was this kind of solo recording, very different from the live version she's been playing for a couple of years. and I have to say I even prefer the live version from Jools Holland; she really nailed it and the chord changes in the last section ("everything we had to go through with a smile on our face...") make it bigger and even more heartfelt. This video should shut up anyone who has the preconceived idea that she's a mess when she plays live. the vocal is just perfect, and she's surrounded by the audience as well as other musicians and she's still cool about it. One of her best moments ever.

glad to be back too! i hadn't checked very often since Chan got sick at the end of last year!

Her voice is magic. Before that performance on Jools I almost forgot how beautiful, moving and soulful her voice was. It made me think of the first time I saw her live in Paris. I was mesmerized.

I also feel this every time I listen to the first seconds of Metal Heart. Losing the star without a sky...

Have you noticed that the version sung on Jools Holland is slightly different from the studio track? The part with "The looking glass mirror" disappeared and it finished on "I could never forget".

Similar to "Manhattan" on Jimmy Fallon, they had to re-arrange it a bit to fit the time slot. This would be my guess.
