Headlights 7" - 1993
Cat Power's first ever release was this single, "Headlights" which was released in 1993.
Only 500 copies were ever released, and from what I have seen online, most feature a Hello Kitty stamp in place of an edition number, however mine was left completely blank. The side A runout grooves read "Illusion of Lowlife" and the grooves to side B say "Channy Rabbit."
Side A - Headlights
Side B - Darling Dear Sir

It definitely has some dust, but that is to be expected from a record that is now twenty years old...wow I didn't realize this record was that old! This record has a couple light marks, but a good cleaning should clear it up. An amazing copy for sure!

While the "Good Woman" biography listed the picture as being "a young Chan Marshall, about six...", this simply cant be correct. The picture was taken by Emmet Gowin, in Danville, Virginia, 1969. Chan would not even be born yet.
Noticed this link on the wikipedia page for the single:

Re: Headlights 7" - 1993
A couple weeks ago, Chan posted a picture of this on her instagram. The picture included a price tag on the single for $3.75. This picture was of a copy listed on Ebay. And last week, after making the purchase, this single arrived in my mail.
This small piece of paper was included inside the sleeve.
As you can see, the single is listed among the releases. And note also the line that says, ''...the Dark Beloved Singing Catalogue will be out 3/15/97.'' 1997? So was the single repressed in 1996/1997? Was it even repressed at all? I was curious. So I emailed Dark Beloved Cloud and got this very helpful response from Douglas Wolk:
''The Cat Power single was officially on The Making of Americans (the label run by Sharon and Craig of God Is My Co-Pilot), but I manufactured and distributed it for them (which is to say: I folded up the sleeves, assembled the singles, and sold them to distributors 10 and 20 copies at a time until they were all gone), and I stuck the DBC catalogue into some copies. It was indeed just a 500-copy pressing, if I recall correctly; it was never on Dark Beloved Cloud proper.
Fun fact: none of the copies were ever actually numbered; all (or almost all) of them had "your copy is number" followed by a little blue Hello Kitty stamp (I stamped 'em myself). Craig (who designed the cover) and I both really liked messing with collectors' minds.
Chan also sang a little bit on God Is My Co-Pilot's "Puss 02" CD (I think that's her singing backup on a cover of Growing Up Skipper's "Teenage Boyfriend") and on the Hattifatteners' "Rabbit Rabbit" CD (she's on "Butterflies"; the Hattifatteners were basically GodCo under a pseudonym).
Hope this is helpful--
Douglas''
So there we have it. It truly is a 500 copy pressing. And silent-machine's blank copy with no stamp is probably one of the most rare ones out there. Congrats! Also very cool to find out about another Chan-related track!

Unless Silent Machine's copy is not legit, which is very unlikely but who knows?
