Do you guys have a favorite Cat Power album?

I've always been curious about which record(s) stand out as the favorite to her fans. I think it is safe to say that every one of Chan's albums have been my favorite at one point or another. The album that particularly stands out to me though is The Covers Record, but I have to say that Dear Sir comes in a close second.

I feel like her early work doesn't get much love, and this is why I took Dear Sir to be signed when I saw her. I'm sure she has signed plenty of copies of Sun and The Greatest, but I doubt she has signed very many copies of Dear Sir over the years.

Got a bit off topic there... What is your favorite Cat Power record?

Probably Moon Pix, but not by a long shot.
In fact some days i'll be in a mood for a rather pop album like "SUN", and another day i would go for something like "What Would" or "You Are Free".
Cat Power discography is so diverse and the quality so even that i find difficult to establish a clear hierarchy between her output.

I feel a particular attachment to JUKEBOX because of Metal Heart and because it's the first album of Cat Power I've listened to but I think my favourite one is YOU ARE FREE. Speak for me, Maybe not, Werewolf, He war, Evolution, Keep on runnin', I don't blame you...Waouh!

Like Nicolaoua, I love all her material. It depends on the mood I'm in.

I agree with both of you in terms of your mood affecting your choice in music, and thats why I included that all of her albums have been my favorite at some point or another. Jukebox was also my first Cat Power record and the song Lost Someone was the first I had heard. Ever since then, I was hooked.

She's really talented in writing songs.

Every album could have been related to every stage of my life. I would have loved her first two albums in my teenage years. I used to listen to Nirvana, Sonic Youth...Unfortunately I didn't know her back then.

Followed closely by the Moon and the Sun. If I can get another one autographed it will be The Covers Record.
